Triple Mobius in a Celadon jade
I usually carve this design in white or green jade. Sometimes I use Olmec Blue jade from Guatemala. This time I have gone with a celadon jade. It has just a hint of pale green about it and was the most sought after jade thousands of years ago when the Chinese turned from hunter-gatherers into farmers. The colour reminded them of newly germinated seeds. Jade carvings of this colour were often offered as sacrifices to the gods in the hope of a good harvest. As the centuries rolled by and jade was appropriated by the nobility rather than shamans and countryfolk, it lost its preeminent position to pure white and deep green jades but those close to the land have never forgotten its significance.
Height: 27mm Width: 27 mm Depth: 9.5mm. Weight: 11 grams.
