A new jade discovery
The largest jade pig dragon ever found has been unearthed by archaeologists at a dig in Inner Mongolia. The pig dragon is considered by many to be the forerunner of the mythic dragon, which has been part of Chinese culture for thousands of years.
It was found in the heartland of the Hongshan culture (ca. 3500–2500 BCE), the first of the Jade cultures of ancient China, at a site near Chifeng city.
It was among more than 100 pieces of jade at the site. The pig dragon measures 16 cm long, 9.5 cm wide, and 3 cm thick.
Experts say the discovery of so many jades fills a significant gap in the archaeological study of Hongshan Culture in Inner Mongolia. Learn more about the Stone of Heaven at www.jadefiend.com
