SPOIL is a short, sharp read which tells the story of how the West looted China of its treasures, including many priceless jades, in the nineteenth century, and still refuses to give them back. It wasn’t just soldiers from the invading armies who plundered; the diplomats sent to negotiate with the Celestial Kingdom and the correspondents sent to cover the three wars waged on China by the West in the nineteenth century also grabbed their share. The missionaries sent to save heathen souls were just as guilty. My book also offers a way to give back these treasures in a cost effective way, which should save face on all sides.
