A Jade Twist Bangle

While most bangles consist of a circle of unblemished jade, there are other designs, which, although less well known, are sometimes chosen as an alternative to the traditional style. The one featured here is a ‘twist’ bangle, carved in such a way that it appears two thick rope-like strands of jade have been twisted together to form a distinctive bracelet. There are fewer of these on the market because they take far longer to fashion. It is much easier to make a mistake while carving one and the craftsman is far more likely to end up with a wasted piece of jade. In addition to this, sanding and polishing them takes much longer.
